Without a doubt, the foundation of “first foods” should be fruits and veggies. But when it comes to one and two year olds (who are still pretty new to “solids”), what
other foods should you focus on? While you may not think of something so flavorful as “baby food” fodder, here are three reasons to consider
hommus.
- It’s Fun
What toddler would pass up playing with their food? Hommus was made for little hands to dip, spoon and smear. So (please) pass it over and let ‘em play.
- It’s Convenient.
Sure, cooking up and pureeing your own anything is ideal. But with already-lengthy to-do lists as parents, sometimes it’s just not always practical and you need snacks and meals that are quick and easy. Hommus (Cedar’s Hommus, anyway!) is made with pure, healthy, non-GMO ingredients, and all you have to do is pop off the top and serve with veggies, mix into pasta or spread on a slice of bread.
- It’s Nutritious
Hommus’ primary ingredient is chickpeas—a.k.a garbanzo beans—which are packed with protein and fiber, and have been known to promote heart health and digestion. Tahnini (ground sesame seeds) are rich in B Vitamins, Vitamin E and calcium. It also has olive oil, which is high in healthy fats (mono-unsaturated fatty acids). And with the endless variety of hommus, from Avocado and Artichoke Spinach to Beet Scallion and Garden Vegetable, nutrients abound.
