Salsa Burgers

Fire up the grill and get cooking with this fiery burger recipe. Our Medium Salsa and slices of pepper jack cheese bring the heat while the tomato and avocado cool things off just enough.


  • 1 ½ pounds lean (at least 80%) ground beef 
  • ½ cup Cedar’s Medium Salsa
  • ¼ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • ¾ cup hot pepper jack cheese, shredded
  • 6 burger buns, split and toasted
  • 6 tomato slices 
  • 6 avocado slices 
  • 6 red onion slices
  • 6 pieces of lettuce
Serves 6 Total 30-60 Minutes


  1. Heat grill. In a medium bowl, mix beef, salsa and breadcrumbs. 
  2. Shape mixture into 12 4-inch patties, ¼-inch thick. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cheese in the center of 6 patties, spreading slightly. 
  3. Top with remaining patties; press edges together firmly to seal.
  4. Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill. Cook 11-13 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of the patties reads 160 F.
  5. Place burgers on bottom halves of buns. Top each with a slice of tomato, avocado, red onion and a piece of lettuce. If desired, top with additional salsa. Cover with top halves of buns.
