Pumpkin picking is a time-honored fall family tradition. Why not add a festive annual get-together with friends to the activity line-up? We’ll skip the carving and keep knives in the kitchen drawers for this one though. A pumpkin painting party is where it’s at. Here’s the plan.
Pick Your Pumpkins
Head to a local farmstand and pick out your pumpkins. But here’s where it gets tricky. You could play it safe and go with your standard orange, medium pumpkins, OR you could shake things up with an array of shades, shapes and sizes. (Or even add funky gourds to the line-up!) Just be sure to get a few extra just in case.
Set the Scene
If the weather’s nice, we recommend hosting the painting party outdoors...for obvious reasons, ahem. Have the kids help make a scarecrow or place a few seasonal decor accents like colorful hardy mums for the area you’ll be painting in. Then lay a tablecloth or newspapers down on a long table or a few smaller tables for easy clean up.
Gather Materials
Before the kids arrive, create a painting “station” for everyone. This should include a big paper plate dotted with a rainbow of colors for them to use, a paint brush and cup of water. Put a couple baskets of markers and stickers on the table for everyone to share, and have paper towels or wipes on hand. Provide glitter and glue at your own risk!
Also, Snacks
When the final touches have been put on the pumpkins, they’re drying in the sun, and all hand washing is complete, put out a plate of veggies and hommus, cantaloupe slices and a variety of Cedar’s Grab n’ Go Snack Packs. (Kids love snack packs!)
